Hidden Categories
Excluding Products and Categories from the Category Filter
Settings Overview
This setting provides two different effects:
- Products from specific categories can be excluded from the search index.
- These categories can be hidden from the category filter.
Excluding Products
In some cases, certain products, such as gifts included with orders, should not be searchable. These products are often assigned to a special category, which can be specified here.
For the exclusion to work, products must be assigned only to hidden categories. If a product is also assigned to at least one visible category, it remains searchable.
Excluding Categories from the Category Filter
Products can belong to multiple categories. Some categories may be temporary or specific to certain sales campaigns (e.g., “Spring Trends”). These categories may not be useful in the category filter and can be hidden to keep the filter list shorter and more relevant.
A hidden category is marked as "true" in the Category Checker under the "HiddenForSearch" field.
Additionally, in the Category Overview, hidden categories are labeled with "I = Irrelevant Shops" next to their Category ID.
